SINGAPORE - A 60-year-old male lorry driver has been arrested for committing a rash act causing hurt, following a viral video which shows the vehicle allegedly knocking a woman to the ground, almost pinning her.
In a media statement on April 22, the police said that the 54-year-old woman involved in the incident was conscious when she was taken to Sengkang General Hospital.
The police were alerted to the incident at Block 166A Punggol Central at about 6.30pm on April 17.
In a video posted on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook group, three people can be seen attempting to prevent a lorry from leaving what appears to be a parking space or a loading and unloading bay.
Two of them – a man in a black shirt and a woman in a white top – stand in front of the lorry, using their hands in an attempt to block it as it leaves the parking space.
Another man in a striped T-shirt and a white cap is positioned by the driver’s door with his left hand gripping the door handle.
The woman loses her footing and tumbles backwards as the lorry begins turning right. The lorry continues to move forward, almost pinning her under before stopping.
She manages to crawl to safety as the lorry reverses slightly, while the man in black kicks the lorry. He continues to kick the lorry as the woman stands to one side.
The man in the striped shirt is seen again attempting to open the driver’s side door. He then disappears from view momentarily, only to return with a white motorcycle helmet in hand. He swings the helmet at the driver’s side window, breaking it.
A fourth person, a man in a brown hoodie, joins the fray on the passenger side.
As the lorry moves, the man in black continues trying to block it by standing in front and pushing against it.
The footage then cuts to a scene on the KPE, showing a motorcyclist repeatedly attempting to obstruct the lorry as it tries to switch lanes on several occasions.
From the right-most lane, the lorry veers into the left-most lane leading to Exit 9B, towards Buangkok East Drive, as though it is about to leave the expressway. However, just before the exit, it switches lanes again to remain on the expressway.
The motorcyclist is seen following suit, riding alongside the lorry as it veers to the right-most lane again before overtaking it to be positioned in front.
From there, the back-and-forth continues for nearly a minute.
With the motorcyclist eventually blocking its path, the lorry gradually slows to a stop on the right-most lane of the KPE, next to Exit 9C – the slip road leading to Lorong Halus and Punggol Central.
ST understands that the incident along the KPE took place before the confrontation at the parking space near Block 166A.
The lorry driver is also being investigated for the offence of dangerous driving. Police investigations are ongoing.
In the footage, the lorry is seen to carry the Ezbuy logo.
Ezbuy is an e-commerce platform and shipping agent that allows customers to purchase a wide variety of products from overseas, including China, Taiwan, and the US.
The Straits Times has contacted Ezbuy for more information.
